How to Draw the Face in Sight Size

4/4/2020

Ever want to know how to start a drawing? Or how to draw a face?

This is series of how to draw the face in sight size posted on Facebook Live's Bucks County Classical Arts Center Page. This is being done during the Coronavirus quarantine and my choice of materials is based partly on what I normally use and partly on what I have available to use.

I used a 2H pencil and there is a link below to use the same reference we use. We printed it on an 8 1/2" regular printer paper. The paper is 11x14" Strathmore sketch paper, 300 Series, 50lb weight.

Please leave a comment or a question. The more feedback I get the better the post gets! More free lessons by clicking below including how to draw eyes!

Thanks for checking out my timelapse video of my demonstration at Willingboro Art Alliance in Willingboro, NJ. I used I think 3-4 earth colors and it was a lot of fun. The Art Alliance were terrific hosts and asked great questions. Thank you Pat and David for inviting me in!

John Murdoch completes Portrait Commission of Kelly Money

12/5/2017

I recently presented Kelly Money with a finished portrait in oil paint on prepared wood panel.

David Money of Doylestown commissioned me to paint an oil portrait of Kelly. The work was a collaborative effort. David  photographed Kelly in my studio under controlled lighting. I then picked which photo to paint from that would capture the unique warmth and charisma we all wished to portray in the final painting.

I'm excited to put the finishing touches to this. I know Kelly and her family through the local art scene. It is always more fun painting someone you know.

John Murdoch is a classical artist, master instructor and founder of the non-profit Bucks County Classical Arts Center in New Hope, Pennsylvania.John teaches drawing including portrait drawing and painting.

Coco Bot and Knubkin have a new home!

9/12/2017

"Knubkin" and "CocoBot with stylish portabello mushroom cap" move to their new home! They join their distant sister cousin painting "Still Life with Wine Bottles" in a private home in Chicago. The two paintings are part of Murdoch Art's original "Fruit Bot" series. The paintings are a mixture of still life whimsy and the artists wish to do anime with giant robots! Many grocery store trips were required as a ll  the reference material was taken from life.
